LEGEND HAS IT
Who is Manduša?
One of the legends says that Zagreb was named after coincidental meet between a King’s daughter Manduša and a Duke followed by his army. Manduša was standing next to the well when the thirsty soldiers were passing by. Duke asked her for some water telling her “Mandušo, scoop it up!” (in Croatian: “Mandušo, zagrebite”). That well is today’s fountain Manduševac and the empty plain where they met is Zagreb’s most immediate centre - Ban Jelačić Square.
